God saw that people were doing bad things and his heart was filled with pain. Noah was God's friend who listened to and talked with God.

God told Noah to build an ark because a storm was coming. God promised to rescue Noah and send animals to him, and the storm would wash away all the bad things.

Noah built the ark even though his neighbors laughed at him because the boat was in the desert with no clouds in the sky. When ready, Noah's family and animals got on board and it rained for weeks.

God kept Noah safe for 40 days and nights. When the rain stopped, Noah sent out a dove that brought back an olive leaf, showing there was land. They landed on a mountain and Noah thanked God.

God promised never to destroy the world again and put a rainbow in the clouds as a sign. Even though things went wrong again, God had a better plan to send his own son as the rescuer.

God asked Jonah to go to Nineveh to tell his enemies that God loves them, but Jonah said no and tried to run away from God.

A big storm hit Jonah's boat because he was running away from God. Jonah knew it was his fault and told the sailors to throw him overboard to save everyone.

When Jonah was thrown into the water, God sent a big fish to swallow him whole. Jonah spent three days in the dark belly of the fish, thinking about what he had done.

After the fish spit Jonah onto the beach, God asked him again to go to Nineveh. This time Jonah said yes and delivered God's message, and the people listened and turned to God.

The story ends by mentioning that many years later, God would send another messenger - His own son - who would also spend three days in darkness to bring God's message to the world.

Arachne was a gifted weaver who lived in ancient Lydia. Athena disguised herself as an old woman to warn Arachne, but Arachne accepted a challenge to compete against the goddess.

The weaving contest began with Athena at one loom and Arachne at another. Athena wove a tapestry showing herself and Poseidon giving gifts to Athens, while Arachne began weaving scenes of Zeus in different forms.

Athena found Arachne's work flawless but was enraged at being beaten by a mortal. She tore up the tapestries and filled Arachne with guilt. Arachne became so depressed she departed this life, but Athena took pity and brought her back as a spider.

Arachne was transformed into a spider and would forever weave for herself and her descendants, the Arachnids.

We learned about the huge size of Noah's Ark's middle floor, which was almost 600 feet long and 60 feet wide with over 16 feet of height.

The middle floor would have been completely dark once the ark was sealed, so Noah would have needed torches or other lights to see.

Some people built the first permanent villages with round stone houses. They were trapped between the sea and desert, so they had to make the best of their land.

The first villages were made by hunter-gatherers, not farmers. These people were amazing at gathering plants and could even make flour and bread from wild grains.

Hunter-gatherers learned to grow fig trees by cutting branches and planting them. Figs were available in early villages but were like a sweet treat, not the main food.

Gilgamesh and his friend Enkidu decided to travel to the cedar forest to get wood and fight a demon named Huwawa.

When Gilgamesh and Enkidu started cutting trees, the angry demon Huwawa appeared and threatened them, but the sun god helped the heroes.

After defeating Huwawa, Gilgamesh became more famous, but when he was rude to the goddess Inanna, she sent a giant bull to attack the city.

After Enkidu died, Gilgamesh became very upset and started searching for a way to become immortal so he would never die.

Gilgamesh couldn't find immortality, but he learned from a wise woman and Ziusudra that he should enjoy life and focus on doing good work.

Learn how silkworms grow and make silk in ancient China.

Baby silkworms are born from eggs and need to be kept warm. The silkworm mother gathers them with a goose feather and feeds them chopped mulberry leaves.

Silkworms sleep deeply every few days and shed their old skin. They do this four times and go through five different ages as they grow.

Different aged silkworms eat mulberry leaves in different ways. Older silkworms eat more and grow bigger until their bodies become full of a special material called fibroin.

When silkworms are ready, they climb frames and spin silk cocoons. Each silkworm can make over 1,000 meters of silk thread from its body.

Inside the cocoon, the silkworm changes into a pupa and then into a moth. The moth makes a special liquid to break out of the cocoon.

Female moths attract male moths with a special smell. They mate and the female can lay up to 500 eggs to start the cycle again.

Anansi convinces Killer Whale to have a tug of war too, ties the rope to the whale's fin, then runs back to the forest to start his trick.

Elephant and Killer Whale pull against each other through the rope, not knowing they're fighting each other instead of Anansi. The pulling goes on for a long time until both animals are exhausted.

Anansi visits both tired animals, and they both admit he is stronger. He unties the ropes and walks away, having taught them to respect smaller creatures.

Learn how King Hezekiah built an amazing underground tunnel to protect Jerusalem's water supply.

King Hezekiah was worried about the Assyrian army attacking Jerusalem. He decided to block the water springs outside the city so the enemy couldn't use them.

Hezekiah had workers dig an underground tunnel through the mountain. Two groups started from different ends and worked toward each other until they met in the middle.

The tunnel carried water from the Gihon spring to the Pool of Siloam inside the city walls. An ancient inscription describes how the workers met in the tunnel.

Instead of obeying God, Jonah ran away and got on a ship going to Tarshish, which was the opposite direction from Nineveh.

A terrible storm hit the ship, and when the sailors drew lots to find who was to blame, Jonah was chosen and admitted it was his fault.

Jonah told the sailors to throw him into the sea to stop the storm, and reluctantly they did, which calmed the waters.

The story tells us about Daniel's people being captured and taken from Jerusalem to Babylon as refugees.

King Nebuchadnezzar chose Daniel and other Israelite leaders to be trained as magi to work for him.

Daniel learned new skills but refused to deny his God or break God's laws, even when it was difficult.

Daniel and his friends refused to eat the sacred meat from the king's table because it was offered to other gods.

The king had a dream he couldn't remember and threatened to kill all the magi unless someone could tell him both the dream and its meaning.

Daniel correctly told the king his dream about a great tree that would be cut down, meaning the king would live like an animal for seven years.

Learn about the ancient Mycenaean civilization and their impressive Bronze Age cities in Greece.

The Bronze Age in Greece lasted from 3200 to 1000 BC and was divided into three periods, with the Late Helladic period also called Mycenaean.

Wealthy Mycenaean leaders were buried with valuable goods, many influenced by Cretan art, and they traded with Europe for metals like gold and copper.

After Minoan palaces were destroyed around the 15th century BC, the Mycenaeans took over control of the Aegean Sea and built their own palace complexes.

Mycenaean palaces were centers of power where kings lived and controlled the economy, using a complex system to track and distribute goods and products.

The Mycenaeans adapted the Minoan Linear A script to create Linear B script for the Greek language, but palaces were later destroyed by earthquakes and fires.

According to legend, Perseus founded Mycenae using Cyclops to build the walls, and later Agamemnon ruled the rich city during the Trojan War.
